Pre Learning Journey Log (Makino)

I think that this visit to Makino has been very beneficial, it has really allowed me to learn about precision engineering. I have to admit that previously I have never heard of Makino, and never thought of where the machines in any factory came from.

The thing that interested me about Makino is that their usage of different fields of study during the manufacturing of their products. One example would be the use of laser beams to determine the accuracy of the machine, as well as the electronics being integrated to work hand in hand with the physical machine.

Another thing about Makino that interests me is their cooling plant site. Although the main reason is to keep machines at low temperatures so as not to heat up and expand, I feel that another benefit of keeping the plant cool is to keep the workers refreshed at all times. This is important as a worker who feels hot and tired will not be working as effectively.

I think I am rather connected to precision engineering. A feel examples that I use which go through precision engineering would be my mobile phone and headphones. I love these products and they would not be existent without precision engineering.

I think an interesting project idea would be to research on a way to heat up the raw material such that it will melt, but by heating it using an environmentally friendly way, such as to maintain sustainable living
