Post Learning Journey reflections (3M)

After the visit to 3M, I found that my perception of "innovation" has changed. Also, I have learnt about the different products from 3M, other than the more widely known post-it, command and scotch products. Moreover, I have learnt about the many core technology that 3M bases its products on. Overall, it was a really good experience.

I feel that there are 2 3M products that really interests me.

The first product would be the Post-it notes. These small post-it notes have benefited me since young. Starting from primary school, I used post-it notes to mark the worksheets on my file, whether they were "to be handed in", "to be done" or "corrections to be done". Gradually, I started using them to paste onto my table to remind me of the tasks I had to complete, or to tell me my timetable for the day.
The science behind this humble product is its pressure sensitive adhesive. When it is pasted onto a surface, it will have a bond with the surface. The bond is strong enough to hold the weight of the post-it note, so as to prevent it from dropping off, but at the same time weak enough for the user to remove it easily. I think this is a really clever idea used in a small and humble product. Thumbs up to 3M for manufacturing it!
I also really like this product, the pocket projector.

This is a really good product, especially for working people who need to do presentations anywhere and at anytime. It saves the trouble of needing a full sized projector, though the results are similar. The small design makes it ultra-portable, as well as handy to use. Other than that, the fact that you can present ideas or other things anywhere is a huge plus point. Another great product!

I feel that one of the greatest innovations I have experienced since childhood would be Apple's iphone, as it managed to bring an electronic gadget to become a lifestyle product. The user-friendly iOS is simple to operate, and the simplicity of only having one button only makes the iphone much more attractive.

I feel that one of the possible future project ideas would be to make adhesive products not lose their "stickyness" even if they have been reused. these include blu-tacks, scotch tapes, and of course, post-it notes.
